Mahalo,
I’m writing this edition of The Writer Gal Letter listening to Paris by Taylor Swift! No surprise, she was my top streaming artist for the third year according to Spotify Wrapped. Lol. :D But…I have a HUGE announcement to share with you.
And no, it’s not books-related.
But, before we talk about my big news, I kinda want to talk about how I’m feeling. And where I am. Yes, AGAIN :) Bear with me for just a moment, Postmate.
Over the last two years, I’ve spent most of my newsletters talking books with you - either the ones I’m writing, plotting, or releasing. It’s been a hectic and crazy time. I cannot believe that this is my life, some days. And I am, as ever, so grateful that you make it happen for me. <3
But, for the last few months, I haven’t had any book-related news. We all know why. And I kind of felt like…I have nothing to offer you if I didn’t constantly tell you about what I was up to in my writing life. After all, this is The Writer Gal Letter. I felt awkward and weird about telling you all the time that I was still busy, still caught up in life changes, and unable to commit words to a new story, even though I have Nashit-Pehel and my new series taking significant brain space every day, all the days.
But, today, I decided that I am doing myself AND you, Postmate, a massive disservice by making our relationship about just one thing. My books. As you proved back in September we are more than that, you and I.
I am a real live person to you, same as you, each one of you, are to me. And sometimes, people break down. We falter. We lose faith and hope and light. But, with the help of each other, we can find our way back again. We can become the light again.
And so I will stop feeling awkward and weird about sharing non-book-related times with you, Postmate. And so, without further ado here goes…
A NEW LIGHT BECKONS WITH A NEW BEGINNING
I’m moving houses, Postmate!
Remember, how I told you back in February that our apartment complex is going to be demolished and rebuilt again? Well, it’s finally happening. And the last month has gone in searching for a brand-new home, finalizing the lease for the next three years of our clan’s abode, and all the little nitty-gritty that goes into a move of this kind.
Between packing up my home (with my beloved books) and my grandparents’ place (with more beloved books) and getting the new home in order, I haven’t had the bandwidth to work on a new story or anything remotely related to the business of words! Grandma is now coming to stay with us permanently so we are moving to a significantly bigger place - which means furnishing it and getting it shipshape - and I cannot wait to show it to you in the new year!
Right now, I have this stunning sky view from our apartment to share with you. This is the view of the Mumbai skyline I’ll be writing to every day. I cannot wait, Postmate.
The second I stepped into this apartment (it’s actually opposite my high school!) I felt like I’d come home. The light, the soaring windows, and the feeling of calm and good pervaded my very bones. This change, I welcomed eagerly, Postmate. After the awful last few months finding this home was a little miracle I’ll always cherish.
But, mostly, I cannot stop thinking about how I can finally display ALL of my books on the shelves my Grandpa left to me. It’s bittersweet and a blessing all the same. *sniffles*
So, until the move is complete my main focus is on getting us settled in the new place - so packing, sorting, moving and unpacking and cleaning up a large apartment is now taking up priority! I hope you understand :)
In book news…
Nashit and Pehel’s story will come out in 2023. I swear. But don’t hold me to a timeline yet!
I also have a very especially awesome story I want to get on paper before I talk about it with you. Although, if you follow me on Tiktok, you’d have seen the briefest sneak peeks of it on it this last week :D
Getting all the paperbacks on retailers is my first big business project for the new year. So, wish me luck with that, will you, Postmate?
