Mahalo,
I am writing this edition of The Writer Gal Letter listening to Don’t You (Forget About Me) after watching Pitch Perfect, the most perfect movie about sisterhood, acapella, sick beats, screwing up, and forgiving yourself. It’s a little bit of a theme in my life right now and I’ll get to it in just a minute!
But, first, I’d love to tell you, Postmate, about the last ten days which have been AMAZING. Truly.
This year, my Diwali was spent glued to the computer because I was fortunate enough to be part of this romance author conference where we talked about the business of being a romance author. I am sharing this with you, specifically, Postmate, because the journey of the last eight years would have been impossible without you.
And I can never thank you enough for it. <3
But now it’s time for Team Aarti to touch newer skies and smash through more glass ceilings. And that’s what this edition is about.
TADAAAA…..
I’m going to be a TEDx Speaker!
It is surreal in the best possible way. It truly is to share this news with you after sitting on my hands that your Writer Gal is going to be on the platform that made Brene Brown a star! If you don’t know who Brene Brown is, drop everything and check her Ted Talks out!
I will have lots more details as soon as I get them, but for now, Save The Date - December 18, 2021. And the venue - Park Hotel, Kolkata, India. And come see me talk about all the things that shaped me into the badass storyteller I am becoming today!
Here’s the official poster for the event! :D
A Ruin Update
Do you know what’s amazing about being you, Postmate? You hold me accountable for what I do. It’s literally your only responsibility as an ardent reader-friend and lover of all things Aarti V Raman romance!
To paraphrase the ever-grouchy Jack Nicholson, “You make me want to be a better writer.”
And, GOD, did you do it with Lena and Shane.
The initial batch of RUIN reviews rolled in while I was happily snuggled next to my laptop attending Romance Author Mastermind and WHOA! Are you guys not joking when you say you love me. :)
So, when you didn’t love certain things about RUIN, I listened to you. I looked to see what the consensus was and, yep, the thing I did, I won’t be doing it again. (Those awesome peeps who’ve taken me to task know what I’m talking about).
And you know what’s the amazing thing about what I do? I get to fix it. IMMEDIATELY. (Well, ten days later but who’s counting? :P)
And I would not have had the confidence to do so, if I had not heard literally hundreds of authors tell me, “Your readers will love you. Do NOT disappoint them.”
So, there you go. Here’s the new and much-improved version of Bastard Billionaires #2. And I hope this time, when you dive into Lena and Shane’s story, if you haven’t already done so, you come away with that fullness of heart I KNOW you get when you read me. :)
TBH, I am not surprised this plot twist happened with this book. I feel like RUIN is the making of me as a person who’s lived through a pandemic, a writer, a storyteller, and now…a businesswoman. And NONE of this is would be remotely possible but for your constant love and support.
So, once again, you are awesome and I love you.
Writer Gal Recommends
Watching Brene Brown’s TED Talk on Shame and Vulnerability!
Reviewing RUIN if you haven’t already read it. I’d love to hear what you really feel about this book even if it, ouch, HURTS LIKE HEAVEN :P (The pink buttons above will take you to the Amazon page!)
Watching Taylor Swift’s excellently moving All Too Well short film. Mostly because I was actually in a similar situation years ago and some days, I’m not sure I am ever over it :)
Writer Gal’s Writer Pals Present
For this edition, I am happy to share the incredibly talented Imani Jay’s book that’s available to download for you. I don’t know about you, but a hot guy in a suit is pretty much my JAM! And this guy wears the hell out of that suit, no? :P
Here are some more amazing recs and romances for you, Postmate. Check one, check all and fill up your device for more delicious happy ever after! You’ll have fun, I promise. :)
That is it from me for this time, Postmate. I’ll write in to you super soon with more news on TEDx, bookish updates and a giveaway that’s going to be SO much funnnnn.
Till then, stay safe and awesome,
Xx
